When India played the World Cup finals last weekend, the entire nation came to a standstill. Producer Vashu Bhagnani was positive about the prospects of his F.A.L.T.U though and it was for all to see that leaving aside Saturday, collections for the remainder of the weekend were fantastic. Meanwhile other makers are expected to keep a tab on cricket fever as well with one such director being Anees Bazmee whose THANK YOU is releasing right on the weekend when IPL commences.
'Arrey yaar kitna cricket dekhoge, bore nahi hue kya,' Bazmee says with a laugh, 'I know that matches at the start of IPL are not all that interesting. Also, they are too close to World Cup cricket and I think everyone had had their quota of cricket entertainment full.'
He doesn't deny though that IPL was looked at closely before the 8th April release date of THANK YOU was announced.
'UTV (the film's co-producer) were always quite sure that this was the right timing for the film's arrival. We had announced the release date more than six months back even as we were shooting for the film,' he says, 'THANK YOU is a family film with enough expectation of word of mouth to keep it going. We are not worried.'
Well, one hopes just like Vashu and Co., lady luck smiles on Anees Bazmee as well for THANK YOU and his film indeed takes on the IPL successfully.
