This is one 'dostana' that is seeing constant flip-flop for itself over the year gone by. However as things stand today, there is stability after all with the film coming back on track. Though there were rumours around the film being shelved, the fact is that none of that is true and India's first contemporary gay romcom is pretty much on Karan Johar's radar.
'Karan is not going to let go of this franchise', says a source close to him, 'While there are films like GOLMAAL, KRISSH, MUNNABHAI, DHOOM and now even DHAMAAL, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI and HOUSEFULL boasting of sequels, as a franchise DOSTANA is unique in it's own way as no other film in past, present or future has been centered on the theme of gay lovers and that too in an amusing manner.'
He further goes on to confirm, 'The cast including Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham has been kept on a standby and there are clear instructions that the film would happen for sure. It is all about writer-director Tarun Mansukhani cracking on the final draft of the script. Once he is ready to tell Karan that all the groundwork is done, it would all boil down to the film going on floors.'
In the past there have been speculations that since Karan wasn't too happy with what Tarun came up with, he had decided to drop DOSTANA 2 and instead make an altogether different film. However Karan had denied this and said that Tarun himself wanted to work on it further.
Says Karan, 'Tarun is working hard on the script and wants the humour to be double. He realises that he can't just rely upon the film being a franchise and take it easy.'
With neither Tarun starting anything new nor Karan making any announcements around dropping either Tarun or the film by itself, guess rumours can finally die down and fingers kept crossed to see some double dhamaal with DOSTANA 2. Meanwhile our source does confirm that the film would certainly go on floors this year.
