With the bunched releases namely, CHALO DILLI, SHOR - IN THE CITY, NAUGHTY @ 40 , I AM and MEN WILL BE MEN (not to forget Hollywood releases like THOR etc.), it was but inevitable that they would eat into each other's business. However expectations were still on for a 25-35 percent start especially for CHALO DILLI and SHOR IN THE CITY. Unfortunately it turned out to be much lower than that.
The front runners turned out to be Lara Dutta's CHALO DILLI and Balaji's SHOR IN THE CITY with the rest lagging behind further.
SHOR-IN THE CITY and CHALO DILLI
Thankfully, the good reviews, especially for the two aforementioned films have made the trade hopeful of an improved weekend. Also given the fact that both CHALO DILLI and SHOR IN THE CITY are very reasonably priced, makes the optimism seem practical.
In a way the dull start for the new releases augers well for Abhishek Bachchan's last Friday release, DUM MAARO DUM, which has netted a decent 23.25 (approx.) crores in its opening week from India.
