If there are two actors who would be all excited about their first ever outing together, they would be Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol. After all both have a huge hit each under their belt in the form of MURDER 2 and ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA. And now that they are coming together in SHANGHAI, a film that which is also expected to facilitate an image change for both of them, Emraan and Abhay are positive that they would end up surprising their audience.
"Emraan as well as Abhay had been constantly building a niche base for themselves over the years. Ever since MURDER, Emraan has largely catered to mass audience who expect a regular dose of 'masala' entertainment from him. On the other hand Abhay hasn't really been a fan of quintessential Bollywood flicks and has found his bearing in offbeat cinema. Clearly, both of them have a divided audience base for themselves," says a fellow actor.
However, Dibakar Banerjee was in a mood to get experimental and hence decided to bring in these actors belonging to two extreme ends. Seems like the decision has paid off in a big way since both Emraan as well as Abhay are now enjoying the best of both worlds.
"Exactly,' comments a trade observer, "So while Emraan has now been greeted wholeheartedly by multiple audience as well after MURDER 2, Abhay has now been seen by the maximum audience ever in his career, courtesy ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA which has been doing well across all metros as well as big cities. One can well imagine how SHANGHAI would now benefit from the presence of these two actors."
Meanwhile a source close to the director adds, "SHANGHAI has certainly turned hotter than ever before since more people are now expected to step in for the film, now that both Emraan as well as Abhay have struck gold in quick succession. For Dibakar it is truly a lottery."
