When the millennium star Amitabh Bachchan bows his head in front of gods before starting his day, he also pays tribute to the genius of Nitin Chandrakant Desai the indisputable baadshah among all Bollywood production designers, who has turned a film producer, and will soon be seen in a Marathi film as an actor. He is also slated to direct a film in near future.
AMITABH BACHCHAN and NITIN DESAI
The occasion was the 25th year of Nitin Desai's entry into the film industry that was celebrated on 8th August, 2011, with the release of a book by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan in the presence of Uddhav Thackeray, and the Indian Film Industry's big names like Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, Manmohan Shetty, Ketan Mehta, Nitish Roy, and others. The book titled ADHUNIK YUGACHA VISHWAKARMA: NITIN CHANDRAKANT DESAI is written by Mandar Joshi, Editor, Premier Magazine, and published by Sakal Media group.
Everyone who was ever associated with Desai was invited - friends, relatives, and the people from the film industry, small and big - and in the words of Big B he had never seen such a big gathering to honour a 'behind the scene' film technician. When an emotional and a deeply moved Desai touched Big B's feet and asked him to say a few words, he narrated an interesting story in his impeccable Hindi.
Mr. Bachchan was invited to inaugurate the ND Studios in Karjat. The studio had a big temple with beautifully sculpted statues of the main Hindu deities. Big B was quite appreciative of them. This was enough for Desai to have all those statues sent to Big B's house at Juhu. They are kept in a make shift little temple at Janak bungalow that houses Big B's office and a personal gymnasium. Every day, before Big B starts his exercise regime around 5 AM in the morning, he bows his head to all those deities, and to the genius of Nitin Desai. These words of Big B led to a rapturous applause by the audience. There could not have been a more apt finale to the evening.
