MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN could be one of those rare films in the coming years where Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif would be paired opposite each other. That's because two other films where they were planning to share a common frame - Dibakar Bannerjee's next and Sanjay Gadhvi's 7 DAYS IN PARIS - are not quite happening soon.
"This was an untried 'jodi' till Aditya Chopra finally brought them together for MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN. Looking at their crackling chemistry in whatever has been seen of this rom-com so far, Bollywood is waking up to this pairing in a big way. However it is unfortunate that no other exciting proposal has come their way which could justify their presence together", says an industry insider.
There is history behind choice of on-screen partners for Imran and Katrina as well. While Katrina has still repeated co-stars, right from Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar to Ranbir Kapoor, Imran has seen six different leading ladies opposite him in each of his releases so far. Also, except for Sanjay Gadhvi (with whom he worked in KIDNAP), every director (including the ones that he has worked in his upcoming films - MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN and EK MAIN AUR EKK TU (earlier titled 'Short Term Shaadi') - has been a debutant.
One wonders whether this is something Imran has pondered in when it comes to working with experienced directors like Sanjay and Dibakar.
"Well, there is no hard and fast rule around that. It could well be a coincidence but that very reason can't be expected to stop him from working with Katrina if a project is exciting enough", says a close associate, "Guess what came his way didn't quite enthuse him and hence he refrained from giving a green signal."
Whatever be the case, seems like one would have to wait for a much longer time period after MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN before this new 'jodi' is seen on the big screen all over again.
