There was a time when David Dhawan swore by Salman Khan and Govinda. In fact he also delivered the biggest money spinner of his career when he got the duo together for his PARTNER. However four years after his 'Hitch' inspired comic entertainer, he is yet to devise a project with either of them. In fact he has moved on fairly and squarely and is now happy to have worked with other veterans like Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn instead.
RASCALS and PARTNER
"For how long can you expect a director to wait for his actors? Not the least David who has never sat down with a script in hand and waited for dates from actors. When RASCALS came calling and Sanjay Dutt proposed to produce the film, he pronto formed an association with him all over again. He didn't even mind roping in Ajay Devgn with whom he is said to have shared a not-too-pleasant history over a decade ago," says an industry source.
Guess when all the talks during last couple of years have been centered on when would Dhawan bring Salman and Govinda together again for PARTNER 2, it won't be a bad idea to start conceptualizing RASCALS 2, now that the going has been pretty smooth with Sanjay and Ajay. Also, in any case with Sanjay Dutt, Dhawan shares an association that has been on for over two decades.
"It has been more of an emotional relationship actually with Sanju," acknowledges Dhawan, "He is the one who had a big hand in giving me a break with TAAQATWAR. With him and Ajay together, I really enjoyed working on RASCALS. If I would have thought of anyone else during its making, do you think I would have been able to wrap up the film in such record time?"
Fair enough, as long as RASCALS indeed surpassed the humour of PARTNER and leads to yet another franchise in the making.
