Ask any film buff and one can be almost certain that he would have heard of the song 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' from JAANE TU YA JAANE NAA. The song was such a huge hit when released three and a half years back that it found an instant connect with not just the general audience but even industry folks. So much so that director Saurabh Shukla decided to make an entire film with PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA as its title. Now that the Vinay Pathak-Neha Dhupia starrer is all set to release, the makers say that catching hold of this title was pretty amicable even though it was Aamir who made it popular.
PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA and AAMIR KHAN
"Saurabh has this long standing association with Aamir and he really liked the song. In fact at one point in time he was oscillating between two titles and was unsure about which one to go ahead with it. However when PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA came his way, there were no second thoughts. It went perfectly well with the script and we felt that this was the best title. We were lucky that no one had any issues as we went ahead with it. It has such a catchy feel to it and has been really liked by people out there," says Neha Dhupia, the lead actress of the film, who is returning with Shukla again after RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI. The film features Vinay Pathak as a pharmacist while Neha plays a backup dancer who hails from a small town. Fate brings them together as they end up being roommates in a flat at Mumbai.
"In this story you would see that there is no absolutely right or wrong," says Neha, "Saurabh has taken this film to a different level by concentrating on telling a story effectively instead of pushing any message down someone's throat. Eventually what is being said is that there is a Pappu in each one of us and there is no one who is intrinsically negative."
Well, we would want to see that as well once the film releases this Friday.
