Is Mahie Gill the current favourite with the likes of Vinay Pathak and Saurabh Shukla who revel in making middle-of-the-road cinema? If some of the upcoming films featuring Mahie Gill are any indication, there is a lot that adds fuel to the fire.
Says an industry insider, "Mahie is fast turning out to be the flavour of the season. After showing what she is capable of in films like DEV D and GULAAL, she waited for a while for some big films to come her way. However, with DABANGG showing that massy commercial films weren't quite offering her what she was truly capable of, Mahie took an immediate action by signing a flurry of interesting middle-of-the-road projects."
As a result of this action, Mahie would now be seen in at least three films this year. While UTT PATAANG is the first to arrive today, others to follow would be SAHIB, BIWI AUR GANGSTER and PAAN SINGH TOMAR, none of which are bound by quintessential Bollywood commercial trappings.
"Mahie is definitely doing good for herself and trying to create a niche for herself in the industry where either star kids survive or the ones who are affiliated to a camp", continues the insider, "In a film like UTT PATAANG, one would have expected Neha Dhupia to be originally cast as she is one young woman who has continuously stood by Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak and Saurabh Shukla in thick and thin. No one knows whether Neha was approached for this film as well but with Mahie joining the fray, there could well be some competition brewing here."
Well, competition only makes the battle a lot more interesting, right?
