In one of our earlier columns we had listed reasons why we believed that Akshay Kumar's latest release, PATIALA HOUSE can emulate his heartwarming film NAMASTEY LONDON.
The Nikhil Advani directed film embarked upon a rather slow start than was expected, quite the same way as Akshay-Katrina's NAMASTEY LONDON had done. Like NAMASTEY LONDON it too was applauded by the audience and the critics too were kind as PATIALA HOUSE received best ever reviews for a recent Akshay Kumar film. The film has netted around 24 crores during the opening week from India, despite the rather slow start.
Emulating NAMASTEY LONDON further PATIALA HOUSE has held on well in the weekdays and has steady low end collections to show, which is a positive sign as the film has not fallen like the recent Akki's films (barring HOUSEFULL), which after taking a flying start have crashed like a pack of cards.
Moreover it has done well in the Overseas quite like NL, which too was appreciated in that market and the makers can hope for a good haul from there.
In keeping with our prediction, the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup practice matches have not hampered PATIALA HOUSE much and we hope that the film will sustain in the days to come, though it has a strong opposition in Priyanka's 7 KHOON MAAF, which released yesterday. If the film does manage to achieve decent numbers in the second week as well, one can hope for a repeat of NAMASTEY LONDON as PATIALA HOUSE has been sold at a reasonable 22-23 crore to the Indian distributors.
Here's keeping our fingers crossed for PATIALA HOUSE and Akshay Kumar.
