TANU WEDS MANU reviews are out and the film is being vastly compared with 2 lovely romantic comedies of recent past, JAB WE MET and BAND BAAJA BAARAAT. It is being held that TANU WEDS MANU is quite on the lines of JAB WE MET, wherein Kangna Ranaut's character 'Tanu' shares a lot of similarities with 'Geet' of JAB WE MET.
However, filmmaker Anand L Rai, of STRANGERS fame, disagrees with the comparisons being drawn and very easily sets apart the two characters. "Both 'Tanu' and 'Geet' come from different schooling. There's a beautiful kid in Geet whereas in Tanu there's a naughty teenager. Geet is kid by heart but Tanu is sharp, intelligent and sneaky. Tanu is a free-willed girl. There's a beautiful transformation which Kangana goes through in the film. Her character matures after falling in love," says the director in defense of his character Tanu.
Kangana, who is known for her peculiar roles - depressed, schizophrenic, neurotic, is seen in a comic avatar for the first time. But Anand Rai never found it a risky proposition casting Kangana in such a contrasting role to the ones played by her in the past. "I'll clear the doubt by sighting a small example here –'When a professional goes for bungee jumping there is no scream, no thrill, no excitement to watch him but when a non-professional is trying it out there's definitely enthusiasm, excitement to check him out screaming'," illustrates Anand Rai.
Further he raves about Kangana, "I was looking for courage and challenge, who is hungry for this kind of role and that I found in Kangana. Kangana is a fabulous actor and highly adaptable. With TANU WEDS MANU there's a new chapter in her life. Infact she was more than comfortable, and effortless in enacting the character. She actively took part and gave lot of contribution in the script also. She loved every bit of Tanu."
