Controversies usually scare producers and directors. Even actors have to bear the consequences. After the harrowing experience of Vipul Shah's SINGH IS KINNG, Akshay Kumar wants to take no chances at all.
T Series' PATIALA HOUSE will see him playing a Mona Sardar, which means a Sardar without a turban. Akshay's character Gattu, is shown to belong to a Sardar family but is not a Sardar.
Inside story is Akshay Kumar did not want to take any risks with PATIALA HOUSE. During SINGH IS KINNG, large groups of Sardars had staged protests against Akshay Kumar, for incorrectly portraying a Sardar.
This time around to avoid any such, undue conflict, Akshay requested director Nikhil Advani to change the script, and show his character as a Mona Sardar. The script originally had Akshay's character as a Sardar, however Akshay explained his predicament to Nikhil.
Says a source close to Akshay, "Akshay did not want to hurt any community's religious sentiments, and he also did not want to take any risks with PATIALA HOUSE, he therefore requested Nikhil to make changes to the script."
Nikhil understood Akshay's situation and readily agreed.
"Akshay's parents in the film get so distressed during the riots that they do the unthinkable. They want to protect their child. Therefore in a harrowing sequence in PATIALA HOUSE Akshay's hair and beard are shaved off," said the source. We hope this is fair enough and doesn't spark off another controversy.
