Last year, there were at least half a dozen major flicks (budgeted in and around the 50 crores mark) that failed in theaters and disappointed audience in a major manner. This also led to a sense of resentment that gradually built within the audience. This also meant that those who wanted to pay to step into theaters were more than happy to lap up NO ONE KILLED JESSICA, a medium budgeted film, which came with a promise of a story being told ably rather than depending upon hype around glitz, glamour, songs and dances.
'This is the kind of film that I want to see' - was the cry in urban India that resulted in the film being hailed from all quarters. This was the reason why word of mouth has caught on tremendously well for this Rajkumar Gupta directed film with a constant progress being made with every passing show. In fact even in North India which is currently reeling with intense cold, audience turnout was quite impressive at the least till the evening shows at target centres (multiplexes). As the weekend progressed, the reviews were out all over as well which were unanimous in hailing NOKJ as a good entertainer to begin the year.
For Vidya Balan, this is now her third straight success and an appreciated performance in a row after ISHQIYA and PAA. Here is one actress who is silently delivering successful films year after year. As for Rani Mukherjee, the film has acted like a shot in the arm and also announces loud and clear that that the pretty young woman is not going away anywhere. Now all that one wishes is that she doesn't stick just to Yash Raj Films and picks up films like these with other banners as well on a regular basis.
