Shor, the gritty entertainer from Ekta Kapoor’s ALT Entertaiment and directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK won the Best Director Award at the Mahindra Indo American Arts Council Festival in New York City, in November this year.
Raj and Krishna received their award from renowned filmmaker Mira Nair. The glittering closing night ceremony was attended by a slew of celebrities, including the very respected Mani Ratnam, authors Salman Rushdie and Suketu Mehta.
Directors Raj and Krishna say about winning the award, "We are thrilled that SHOR got a great start at MIAAC - it opened the festival. And now, this award - it's just wonderful!
"With SHOR, our aim was to make a film that was edgy yet entertaining, commercial yet with sensibilities that appeals to audiences everywhere. It's been great, the audience reaction has been fantastic, and that's what matters!"
SHOR was the Opening Night film at the festival led by the main cast, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Tusshar Kapoor along with producer Ekta Kapoor and Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji Motion Pictures Ltd. The screening drew personalities such as the celebrated television host Padma Lakshmi, Mira Nair, actors Deepti Naval, Nandana Sen, Rahul Bose, Ajay Naidu and Seema Biswas and actor-chef Madhur Jaffrey.
As the film continues to gather laurels on a successful international festival run, the Raj and DK along with the producers are also readying it for an India release with a special India version in early 2011.
