Classical singer Pandit Bhimsen Joshi dead

One of the pioneers of Indian classical music, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is no more. He passed away after a prolonged illness today. He was 89.

Bharat Ratna Bhimsen Joshi moved to Mumbai in 1943 and started working as a radio artist and first performed live at the age of 19. His music was loved by critics as well as masses.

Joshi sung for several films, including BASANT BAHAR (1956), BIRBAL MY BROTHER (1973), TANSEN(1958) and ANKAHEE.

Joshi is survived by three sons and a daughter.
