ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, DELHI BELLY and MURDER 2
It was always expected that Zoya Akhtar's ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA would take a good start, more so at the multiplexes, but the Hrithik Roshan starrer surpassed the expectations and has embarked upon a good to fantastic start at the multiplexes. The opening varied from 70-80 and even 90 percent in some cases. The collections improved further as the day progressed. The single screens were expectedly lower at 35-50 percent but that is immaterial as the major revenue comes from the multiplexes.
The Hollywood release, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2, which was touted as the winner this week by a section of the trade and media had to content with the second spot. Yes, the 3D version did get a better start than ZNMD at a few screens but the majority of the prints of HARRY POTTER are not in 3D. And so when the weekend numbers come in the clear winner will be ZNMD, with superstar Hrithik Roshan proving his box-office clout yet again.
From the older releases, the collections of Aamir Khan's 32 crore (inclusive of print and publicity) DELHI BELLY fell heavily from 36.50 crore to 16 crore during the second week as Emraan Hashmi's MURDER 2 proved to be more than a formidable opponent netting a huge (with respect to its 13 crore investment) 36.75 crore, though it hardly matters as both DELHI BELLY and MURDER 2 will end up as super hits or higher.
