Five years ago established filmmaker Farhan Akhtar was challenged by a young debutant called Shirish Kunder at the box office. While Farhan's DON had Shahrukh Khan in the lead from the front, Shirish's JAAN-E-MANN boasted of the combined power of Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. Though the clash was totally avoidable, it is still remembered for the powerhouse campaign that both biggies had boasted of. Seems like history may just about repeat as the field is set for Shirish to bring his JOKER opposite DON 2 this Christmas.
SHIRISH KUNDER and FARHAN AKHTAR
"At the moment this is just a thought but then the possibility of this turning into a reality is indeed exciting enough," says a trade source, "Imagine Akshay Kumar's 3D sci-fi film taking on Shahrukh's action thriller? It is bound to make both the projects even hotter as the expected debate around this clash would only add on to the mileage around the films."
Well, if at all JOKER is indeed giving this a serious thought then a decision would have to be taken rather quick. After all the First Look of DON 2 has already been unveiled while JOKER is waiting to reach the finishing line after being 60% complete. If at all Shirish indeed decides to play this game, it would have to be a race against time.
"It isn't a bad idea though," chuckles Shirish when questioned about the possibility of the big clash, "In fact I never thought about this earlier. But when someone pointed this out to me that it was after five years that both Farhan and I were directing a film, it seemed like a good coincidence."
Coming to the million dollar question on whether he was indeed fast tracking his film to meet the Christmas deadline, Shirish was non-committal around his plans and remarked with a smile, "Why don't you wait and watch?"
