PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA has turned into yet another surprise success of the year after TANU WEDS MANU, HAUNTED, F.A.L.T.U and RAGINI MMS. While a sequel has already been announced for RAGINI MMS, even PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA has joined the bandwagon. This youth comedy with an all new cast, crew and the production team would now also have a sequel. Luv Ranjan, the man behind the film, would be directing PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA 2 as well which would be going on floors in 2012.
"We wanted to test waters before making any announcements," says Abhishek Pathak, all of 24 years of age and perhaps the youngest producer in recent times to taste success so early in his career, "There are so many ways in which this franchise can be taken forward. Wait for the sequel; we would be breaking quite a few trends there as well."
PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, which started slow at the box office, has managed a steady business for itself ever since it's opening on Friday. The film has already netted around 8 crores in collections and is still growing despite half a dozen other newer films, both from Bollywood as well as Hollywood, releasing in the interim.
"Yes, the film has grown with word of mouth and now obviously there is a demand from the market to get the sequel on floor," says director Luv Ranjan in an elated tone, "I don't want to rush into bringing the film on floors though. For PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA I spent quite some time writing it and making myself very sure before approaching the producers."
The makers are looking forward to retain the original cast of Kartik Tiwari, Rayo Bakhirta, Divyendu Sharma, Nushrat Bharucha, Sonalli Sehgall and Ishita Sharma for the sequel as well.
