Though Akshay Kumar has done close to 100 films in the past while for Shirish Kunder JOKER is his second film, the filmmaker is happy to declare that he hasn't faced interference of any kind whatsoever. Many have wondered whether Shirish is indeed managing to bring his own vision into reality, especially since this mega crore venture is a first of it's kind experiment, what with a world of fantasy merged with an alien element, the director confirms that Akshay is happy to be following the direction that is being shown to him.
'When I approached him with JOKER, it was with so much clarity that he got answers to all questions that he had in mind,' says Shirish, 'Once convinced, he was totally on board. I am also a lot more comfortable with him now as compared to the JAAN-E-MANN days. During that time I was very nervous talking to him since I didn't know him. Now there is a comfort factor. As a person he is just the same. However when compared with what he was five years ago, he is a much bigger star. In fact he has been quite a gentleman all this while and done what he is asked to do.'
Second schedule of JOKER has also come a close and Shirish knows that it would be back to the grind as he is working in parallel on the post production as well. Since the film is being shot in 3D and the recent schedule has involved involve the 'alien element', it has promised to accentuate the visual appeal of the film.
'You may remember the first scene of my debut film JAAN-E-MANN (2006),' says Shirish, 'It featured a spaceship with Akshay (Kumar) and Preity (Zinta) in it. Of course it was all done on a set but if you look at it, there is a lot happening in the interiors as well as exteriors surrounding the spaceship. Now when I was actually shooting the scene and passing instructions, not many knew what was in my head. However I had certain visual imagery in my mind which turned into reality when the film came out of post production.'
