Anurag Kashyap's SHAITAN which is releasing this Friday, is easily one of the highly anticipated films. But its journey wasn't a piece of cake, says Bejoy Nambiar, the debutant director.
Says the filmmaker, 'Nobody wanted to produce SHAITAN. It was a long process. Initially, it was supposed to be an English film set in Mumbai. But the producer backed out and I made it into a Hindi film. I pitched it to every producer and every production house, but only faced rejection.'
He further adds, 'The script was one of its kind. It was not your regular, run of-the-mill stuff with candy floss romance and a happy ending. And I was also a first time filmmaker. It wasn't easy for people to entrust. It also didn't have any star attached to it. So it took some time for everything to come together.'
According to the director, Anurag Kashyap decided to produce the film just a few days before it went on floors. 'I was co-coordinating Anurag for Kalki's dates. I used to block her dates with Anurag. But every time it backfired. Kalki then blocked her dates for the last time and told me that if the film didn't start, she won't do it. I was all determined to shoot her part. Just a week before the shoot, Anurag called and asked if he could produce the film. It was like a dream come true for me. We worked on a few things and decided to be joint producers of the film.'
