When Anupam Kher dropped out of playing the role of the central protagonist's part in DEAR FRIEND HITLER, it was not just the director and the production team which saw red. Film's leading lady Neha Dupia was none too pleased as well and did wonder if a last minute walkout from Kher was really justified. It was only later when she composed herself and carried on with the film's shooting. The wound still remains though.
ANUPAM KHER AND NEHA DHUPIA
Says a senior unit member from DEAR FRIEND HITLER, 'All preparations for the film had already taken place and announcement around its commencement had also been made. However, when Anupam Kher staged a walk out at the last minute while fearing a backlash for playing a personality like Adolf Hitler, there were quite a few heartburns. Neha too found herself at the wrong end of the stick. After all she was way too excited about playing a lead role with a veteran actor like Kher and had pined quite some hopes on the film.'
Many had wondered if Neha too would stick to the film at all. After all other than Kher, she was the only recognizable name associated with the DEAR FRIEND HITLER. With Kher walking out, many thought that Neha would follow suit as well.
'That would have been unprofessional on my part', says Neha when asked if quitting the film crossed her mind, 'When I didn't have any issues with the film earlier, why would I have any at a later stage, especially when my producers were anyways struggling to get a replacement for Anupam Kher.'
In the film, Neha plays the part of Eva Braun who was a close friend of Hitler.
