The upcoming Cannes Festival has not shortlisted any Indian film this season. The reason they have given out is that none of the films from the Indian category this time is worthy of finding a place in at the festival.
Despite this missing Indian flavour at the Cannes, the organizers seem to be hell bent on finding ways to get some taste of India. And for this to happen, they have called on eminent filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor to contribute something about Indian Cinema at the Cannes.
According to reliable sources, "The Cannes Festival organisers are adamant about Indian contribution this time. Though none of the Indian films has made it to the Cannes this year, so the festival organisers have entrusted Shekhar Kapoor with the responsibility of showcasing some Indian flavour. The acclaimed filmmaker has recently got this brief and he is working hard to showcase some Indian contribution at the Cannes Festival this year."
The fresh brief from the Cannes underlines the growing clout of the Indian Film Industry. The fact that the organizers want an Indian entity at any cost is a pointer to this fact.
