It is common news by now that Arbaaz Khan would be directing DABANGG 2. What is not known so far though is that who holds the copyright over the film's story. Is it the production house of Arbaaz Khan or Abhinav Singh Kashyap who had written and directed DABANGG?
"It was Abhinav who had presented the original idea of DABANGG to the Khans," informs an industry source, "When Salman and Arbaaz had given a go-ahead to the idea, it had been further fleshed out for a full fledged film. For DABANGG 2 as well, there were creative conversations between Abhinav and the Khans and though the basic idea was locked, there was no final script locked."

This leads one to fear if there could well be some voices raised around the copyright issues, now that Abhinav is no more directing the film and Arbaaz has taken over the reins entirely.
On contacted, Arbaaz dismisses the speculation around anyone, whether Abhinav or someone else associated with the franchise, to be staking claims over the story rights.
"DABANGG has come and gone and for that Abhinav had got due credit both as a director as well as the co-writer. Now DABANGG 2 is an altogether new and a different film," shrugs away Arbaaz who is now getting his groundwork done for the film before it goes on floors in December this year.
When being prodded further around Abhinav's rights over the story, Arbaaz says, "Let me set the record straight once for and all here. Story of DABANGG is with us and Abhinav doesn't have any rights with him. In any case, the original writer of DABANGG was Dilip Shukla while Abhinav only made contribution to the film's screenplay. Now with DABANGG 2 starting afresh, there isn't anyone who can come and stake any claim whatsoever."
