Today David Dhawan is working with Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn in RASCALS. This is yet another instance of him working with an actor again (in this case Sanjay with whom he has worked in numerous films before) other than Govinda (with whom he has shared his most successful partnership till date) as well as Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and even Amitabh Bachchan.
"If I approach an actor and he says that he doesn't have dates, I tell him 'That's wonderful, all the best and thank you so much, please go ahead'. I don't crib over it", smiles Dhawan, "I just allow someone else to walk in. I never delay my films because of an actor."
He would next be making CHASHME BADDOOR. Though there has been no formal announcement around the cast yet, there have been numerous speculations making the rounds of the industry. When asked to give a hint around the actors he is talks with, Dhawan says, "I don't like speculating. Mujhse hota nahi hai that I run after actors. I have never done that in my life. No one is finalised yet. Let's see who comes in. I believe that Bollywood is one small and nice fraternity and one should work with one and all. I don't belong to any camp. I have built relationships over the years but I don't want to force them in my films."
In this regard, he is pretty much following the footsteps of his 'guru' Manmohan Desai who too believed in the power of relationships even as his best partnership was with Amitabh Bachchan.
Dhawan gets nostalgic here, "Man-ji (Manmohan Desai) was my guru, he is my guru even today and he will stay on to be my guru. Do you know that he was the one who had actually signed me on for DEEWANA MASTANA? It was a great loss for me when he passed away as I lost my mentor. Later I went on to complete the film with his son but I know that his 'duas' were always with me."
