'Razia' in THANK YOU is one of those rare occasions that Mallika Sherawat is doing a special song and dance appearance for a film. While she was out of circulation from Bollywood for last few years with the only film that she had done just for an item number being GURU where she had gyrated to the tune of 'Maiyya Maiyya', one wonders how director Anees Bazmee made it possible for her to feature in THANK YOU.
"Let me be very honest; she did THANK YOU mainly because of my earlier association with her in WELCOME. If not for that, she wouldn't have done THANK YOU just for a song", says Bazmee, "She knows that I would present her well and till date feels happy about the fact that even though in WELCOME she had a small character to play, it was a far meatier role than that of Katrina. She knew that if I was calling her for THANK YOU, it was for something special."
As for the woman at the hot seat, Mallika Sherawat, one can be rest assured that she must have been a powerhouse to work with. Since Bazmee has earlier worked with Mallika in WELCOME where she had a brief though important role, did she meet the kind of expectations that the writer-director have from her when it came to signing her on for 'Razia'?
"When we made 'Razia', the common thought was that it should be featuring a strong woman", says Bazmee, "Mallika and I have been in touch for all these years since WELCOME and when I made her listen to 'Razia', she was game for it. She immediately confirmed that she would be doing the song."
Guess no one is willing to talk about the heavy price tag that Mallika came with though.
