Just 10 days into its theatrical release and DUM MAARO DUM has already posted profits in the 2nd weekend itself and with no big releases in sight is expected to continue its run in cinemas for the next few weeks. The film has grossed a box office of Rs. 49.6 crores worldwide till date. The music of the film, which has been no.1 on the charts has already been giving overflows, and combined with the satellite, has contributed returns of 11 crores - so the movie has recovered its investment of production, print and advertising of Rs 29 crores.
Vijay Singh, CEO Fox Star Studios says, "With the success of DUM MAARO DUM, we have managed to debunk the IPL myth. We are delighted that the film has already posted a profit and this calculation does not take into account revenues from home video sales, as also additional ancillary revenues from international TV, online and Home video sales - which we are now focusing on for monetizing as part of our phase 2, as we had done in the case of MY NAME IS KHAN."
Ramesh Sippy, producer, RS Entertainment said, "In an industry where very few films post a profit - I am very happy DUM MAARO DUM has entered the league of successful films like RAAJNEETI, GOLMAAL 3, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI amongst a few others. We are very happy to work with likeminded partners like Fox Star Studios who have done a great job of marketing and distributing it wide across the world and the messages and the love from fans across is a proof of that."
Bhushan Kumar, Chairman T-series, who had bought into this project a year back says, "With the consistent track record of delivering hit songs one after the other we spotted similar potential in the DUM MAARO DUM sound track, music lovers from all over have loved the songs and have seen a phenomenal number of downloads of the tracks which have resulted in overflows for our producer partners."
Director Rohan Sippy is probably the most satisfied of all, says "DMD has been a 2 year long journey for me. Working with some of the finest talent in the country like Shridhar Raghavan, Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu as well as newer talents like Rana and Prateik has enabled us to create a film we're proud of. What's been very rewarding is that a structured approach towards film making was adopted at all levels be it the story, scripting, shooting, and then later getting audience feedback on the rough edits and promotions via research. For myself as well as the entire crew, I'm extremely grateful for the appreciation that people across the world have shown towards DMD."
Sunil Punjabi, CEO Cinemax Ltd. says. "DUM MAARO DUM has performed well at the box office and is holding quite well in the second week. The movie is appealing to a cross section of audiences across the country and in spite of IPL we have seen an increase in footfalls leading to healthy box office collections across our plexes."
With the movie having recovered its costs in the second weekend itself and a long run expected to continue at the box office - It's a win-win situation for all.
