It is a known fact that Abhishek Bachchan has been replaced by Rana Daggubati for the role of a cop in Ram Gopal Varma's DEPARTMENT. While the news by itself was quite shocking since for last one year it was being known to one and all that both Bachchans would be coming together for this cop drama, it was the timing of this announcement that led to wagging tongues.
Many wondered if it was indeed necessary for Ramu to announce this replacement in the same weekend when Abhishek's DUM MAARO DUM had released and not quite seen a terrific opening for itself. Expectedly though Ramu insists that the two events can't really be linked and he had to announce Rana as a replacement since the young actor had to begin work pronto, what with the shoot of DEPARTMENT not quite far away.
RAM GOPAL VERMA
"I am anyways late in starting the shoot of DEPARTMENT. It was high time that I started work on the pre-production of DUM MAARO DUM. There is less than a month and a half left before the film goes on floors", Ramu expresses his point of view here, "There are things like look tests to be done and all of this takes time. There are other preparations to be made as well. As for Rana being cast in the film, I couldn't have held on to the announcement forever. However let the fact be stated that it had nothing to do with DUM MAARO DUM at all."
Reacting to allegations of conspiracy theories, Ramu adds on a parting note, "So many times I have already spoken about how Abhishek had some date problems due to which we couldn't proceed on the film and I had to opt for Rana. There is nothing really remaining for me to say either."
The film's shoot begins on 15th June and would be wrapped up by July end.
