One may call it a co-incidence of sorts but the odd couple phenomena has definitely caught the fancy of the viewers. It all started way back in 2008 with Shahrukh Khan's RAB NE BANA DI JODI but it took concrete shape this year with two of the biggest hits, TANU WEDS MANU and CHALO DILLI, both following the same route to success.
To drive home the point, the best example is of course TANU WEDS MANU, where the two lead protagonists, Madhavan (Manu) and Kangna Ranaut (Tanu), though as different as chalk and cheese, struck such a cord with the audience that till date TANU WEDS MANU is the biggest hit of the year.
Next to follow was Lara Dutta's debut home production venture, CHALO DILLI, where the lead actors, Lara Dutta and Vinay Pathak, who were diametrically opposite to each other in all aspects but still their chemistry sparkled on screen and won many a hearts as well as the audience and the film managed to be an above average grosser in this lean period, and amongst a host of other releases.
Coming to Vipul Shah's KUCCH LUV JAISAA, the film stars Rahul Bose, the super star of alternate cinema and the talented Shefali Shah, and has been directed by Barnali Ray Shukla. In this film too, Rahul Bose and Shefali Shah play an odd couple as Rahul is a criminal on the run while Shefali essays the role of a middle class housewife. The characters essayed by the two in KUCCH LUV JAISAA share nothing in common and yet (as can be seen from the promos) they look so good together that the audience is bound to fall in love with them, and we are sure that this odd couple will definitely set the box-office jingling when it releases.
