He has directed critically acclaimed films like DOMBIVALI FAST and MUMBAI MERI JAAN. But now, he's all set to don the actor's hat. We are talking about filmmaker Nishikant Kamat, who's all set to star in psychological thriller 404.
Says Nishikant, "It was a good experience. I had fun. It was a good break from direction and going back to acting. I had acted long back in a small film in 2003. Prawaal Raman had seen it and wanted me to act. He narrated me the script and told me about my character. It was an extremely complicated character to portray by my standards. It would be much easier for better actors. It was a great challenge and I thought why not give it a try."
Nishikant is playing the role of a college professor in 404. Speaking about working with young co-stars, he says, "It was great fun working with Imaad. He's super talented. He's an amazing actor and musician. It was a great discovery while shooting to realize what potential that boy has. Even Rajvvir was very good. He has given an excellent performance. I didn't know how good an actor he was until I acted with him."
Nishikant denies the film being about ragging. "404 is not about ragging at all. It's about the kind of games that your mind plays on you. I would want the audiences to come to the theatres and see the film. It's extremely interesting and different. I think people will like it."
Quiz him about what is more difficult between acting and directing, and he says, "Directing is definitely difficult than acting. Both require different set of skills."
Having directed films in the past did he give tips to the director of 404? "No, I didn't. I was there as an actor. Even when I am a directing, I don't expect others to give me tips." And wasn't it difficult to not give tips? "It's a matter of conditioning. You need to condition yourself that you are on the set as an actor. You do your acting part and you keep quiet," says the actor firmly.
