It's quite ironical that the universal success of Vikram Bhatt's HAUNTED 3D is being largely attributed to the fact that it is a 3D film, and that is simply because its 3D version has yielded better box-office returns but it does not mean that the normal version has been rejected.
However, those with an in depth knowledge of Bollywood will remember that a 3D film does not guarantee success. It is the intrinsic qualities like good story, performances, music, crisp editing etc that make a movie a hit and that will remain the same always.
To prove our point we will go back in history and to the mid-80s. The first 3D film that created box-office magic was CHHOTA CHETAN and even its normal version did quite well at the ticket window. Even when it was aired on television it was appreciated a lot. The success of CHHOTA CHETAN, especially its 3D version, led to a flurry of 3D films releasing, and most of them like SAAMRI (a horror film like HAUNTED!) and Raj Sippy's Jackie Shroff starrer, SHIVA KA INSAAF, failed to deliver and thus the production of 3D films came to a grinding halt.
Therefore it is quite obvious that the success of HAUNTED is not just because it is a 3D film but because it was excellently directed by Vikram Bhatt, had some good performances, an exciting storyline and not to forget apt melodious music.
