It is impossible to forget the delightful speech in 3 IDIOTS that was centred on 'chamatkaar' and delivered impeccably by Omi Vaidya in his own characteristic manner. While the speech stays on to be one of the most viewed and downloaded clippings from a recent Hindi film, there is another one which could well be joining the ranks. This is the five minute long monologue from last Friday's release PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA which has managed to gain immense appreciation for itself.
"Of course in terms of popularity this monologue still has a long way to go as it is still growing amongst the audience. However all those who have seen it are already calling it one of the most hilarious comic scenes of the year so far," says a film buff, "After Chatur's speech in 3 IDIOTS, it is Rajat's angst which is turning out to be a cracker of a scene."
For the uninitiated, this is the scene where debutant actor Kartik (who plays Rajat in the film) gets into a women-bashing mode after being thoroughly frustrated with his live-in girlfriend. The monologue was spread over five sheets and was required to be delivered in a single take to get the best results. There was not a single cut in this entire scene as it would have threatened to break the momentum. Result was a fantastic scene that has been pointed by every film enthusiast and critic while being singled out as being one of the best written and enacted monologue since 3 IDIOTS.
Kartik has his own story to tell when asked about the monologue, "To think of it, I was most scared about this scene working out in the film. During my auditions, this scene was my final test. To prepare for it, I actually studied that scene from WAJOOD where Nana Patekar wooed Madhuri Dixit. It was again a very long monologue. Since I didn't have any prior experience of facing the camera, I was really nervous. Now that the response to this scene has been so fantastic, I am glad."
Well, now it has to be seen whether the popularity of the scene indeed manages the kind of high that 'Chamatkaar' speech has managed for itself over the months.
