For ALWAYS KABHI KABHI, writer-director Roshan Abbas had to hunt for actors who didn't just look fresh out of school but were also the kind who fitted into the romcom genre of the film. While Ali Fazal has been seen in the role of Joy Lobo in 3 IDIOTS, Giselle Monteiro too is still remembered as Harleen Kaur of LOVE AAJ KAL. However not much is known about how did Zoa Morani and Satyajeet Dubey manage to make their debut with ALWAYS KABHI KABHI.
"Well, I have lots of friends in the industry and I had spread the word that I wanted someone to play a rebellious girl in the film," smiles Roshan, "Typically actresses want to play a sweet girl and there aren't many who risk being a spitfire on screen. However, Zoa took up the challenge and I too loved the entire edginess that she came along. Her look by itself reads - 'Don't mess with me'."
"As for the boy who had to play a geek with the heart of gold, I met many boys but couldn't make much headway. This is where my wife came forward to help," he continues, "She had spotted Satyajeet Dubey in a Pizza Hut commercially and suggested that I meet him. This was it. The moment I met him, I knew I could have him play the role of Tariq Naqvi who wouldn't look odd holding a school bag."
With his principal starcast in place, it was now a matter of getting his team of 'almost newcomers' star afresh on the film.
"I was actually very happy that with such cast in hand, I would now be able to show something that I always intended to with my first film", says Roshan, "ALWAYS KABHI KABHI is a fresh take on the lives of teenagers today. These are the times of Facebook, experimentations, quick breaks up and easy make ups. You will see all this and more in our film."
Also starring Satish Shah, Lilette Dubey, Vijay Raaz, Mukesh Tiwari and Manoj Joshi, ALWAYS KABHI KABHI releases all over on 17th June.
