Though today DESI BOYZ is finding all the right attention coming its way, courtesy the freewheeling light hearted appeal to it. While Akshay Kumar as well as John Abraham are enticing audience with their naughty moves in title song 'Desi Boyz' and 'Tu Mera Hero', one wonders whether the actors were initially convinced about how director Rohit Dhawan would eventually project the film in a right way on screen.
"After all the word 'desi' pretty much equates to porn in the world of internet entertainment," says a source, "With DESI BOYZ not just establishing the characters on screen but also acting as a pseudonym for what could be in store, this could well have been a 'dirty picture' of another kind."
Akshay wasn't carrying many doubts though since he was associated with Rohit from the very inception of the film and hence pretty much knew where the writer-director was coming from.
"They were supposed to make a different film earlier but later when that idea was dropped, DESI BOYZ came into picture," the source continues, "Akshay was well aware of the film's theme and was least worried about the title. In fact he felt that it was pretty cool and gave Rohit a go-ahead to use it as the final title as well. Moreover he has always believed in doing films that cater to family audience and hence there was no scope for anything overtly naughty in DESI BOYZ." However John had a brief hesitation about the title, courtesy the cheesy reference, and wanted all the right reasons to assure himself about the direction that DESI BOYZ was planning to take.
Admits John, "I had my doubts but Rohit was convinced that DESI BOYZ was a beautiful title. His reason was that the word 'desi' augured well, especially in countries in USA and UK. Since these countries have a huge population of Indians, we have our own identity there as 'desis'. Also when you watch the film, you would realise that 'desi boyz' goes well with the theme as well. Once Rohit managed to establish this fact for me, I was all fine to go ahead and do the film."
