The stylish first promo of Abbas-Mustan's PLAYERS doing the rounds at various entertainment channels and web portals bears the stamp of the masters of thrillers and has managed to grab quite a lot of eyeball. The multi-starrer features the likes of Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sonam and Bipasha Basu in leading roles.
However if we take an in depth look at the recent box-office performances of these lead actors we realize that apart from the sultry actress Bipasha Basu (especially in Abbas-Mustan films) the rest of the actors have not had a hit to their credit. First we take the case of Abhishek Bachchan, whose last few releases (barring PAA), DELHI 6, RAAVAN and KHEILEIN HUM JEE JAAN SE have not performed well. It can be called a coincidence that Abhishek's last release, DUM MAARO DUM, which had Bipasha Basu as his co-star, managed an average performance.
Bobby Deol too is desperately in need of a hit and although his last outing, YAMLA PAGALA DEEWANA, was a good hit yet a major portion of the credit for the success goes to Sunny as well as Dharmendra. The rest of his films such as VAADA RAHA, EK- THE POWER OF ONE, THANK YOU have not done well. CHECK OUT: Race time for PLAYERS Abhishek, Sikander & Neil
Even Neil Nitin Mukesh too had not tasted success since the multi-starrer NEW YORK and all his solo releases thereafter proved to be duds. Same is the case with Sonam who too is searching for that elusive hit as the film which she had put all her hopes on, MAUSAM, failed at the turnstile.
In fact, there is buzz that Abbas-Mustan's RACE 2 has Bips in a special appearance, as a good luck charm, and so for us Bipasha Basu is the only one amongst them who has a very good career record, especially with Abbas-Mustan and indeed emerges as the strongest player in PLAYERS.
