ROCKSTAR is all set for release and word in the town is that Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali have managed to create something out and out magical in this musical drama. The acclaimed director yet again managed to showcase his strength behind the craft while for Ranbir too it has been no less challenging to step into a character that spans through a decade and doesn't just go through multiple look changes but also character diversions.
Guess a year long wait for Ranbir to turn Jordan was worth it after all.
"Of course yes, it was," says Ranbir animatedly, "And to think of it, I may just not have been able to do the film at all if Imtiaz would have proceeded with the original set up few years ago. As you must be aware, he was supposed to make the film with some other actor four years ago and I was nowhere in the picture. I was preparing for SAAWARIYA (2007) when word spread about him making ROCKSTAR. Back then too I used to feel that this was one genre that I really wanted to be a part of." For the uninitiated, ROCKSTAR was earlier supposed to be made with John Abraham. However due to certain undisclosed reasons, the film didn't progress beyond the announcement stage and Imtiaz too went on to make LOVE AAJ KAL instead. However ROCKSTAR was one subject that never went out of his mind and when he decided to revive it, Ranbir Kapoor was easily a front runner all the way.
"It is my good fortune that in ROCKSTAR, I got the role of a lifetime," gushes Ranbir who has earlier enjoyed author backed roles in films like ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR, WAKE UP SID and AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI too, each of which has his character's name in the title itself, "Moreover with Rahman in the project, it was obvious that I wasn't letting ROCKSTAR go away anywhere. This was indeed a film that stretched me to some good limits and with the kind of response that has come in, it has only made the wait worth it."
