In December last year Abhishek Bachchan starrer KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY had released. Around the same time another film by the same name - CHITTAGONG - was also slated for arrival. For the uninitiated, both films were based on the same historic subject - CHITTAGONG UPRISING. When the former released, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap had openly claimed that due to massive clout that Bachchans enjoy in the industry, they pushed the Abhishek Bachchan starrer biggie ahead of the relatively small budgeted CHITTAGONG which had Manoj Bajpayee playing the central role of Masterda Surya Sen.
However, all heartburn may soon be forgotten since Anurag has now stepped ahead to revive the film along with another filmmaker, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, in tow.
''One full year has gone by and now the makers too can leave the controversy behind them and start afresh. In any case CHITTAGONG director Bedabrato Pain feels that his film is entirely different from the kind of vision that Ashutosh Gowariker had for his magnum opus,' says a source, 'With Anurag showing good support for the film and Rakeysh pitching in as well, there is very good backing that CHITTAGONG is enjoying now.''
No wonder, Manoj - who would soon be seen in LANKA as well - is ecstatic with CHITTAGONG being revived. He says, ''Yes, Anurag and Rakeysh have promised that they would help the film get released by taking time out of their hectic film-making schedule and help CHITTAGONG in getting its due. I am sure that we would arrive in quick time.''
Though the makers were unavailable for comment, indications are that CHITTAGONG may well arrive in February next year.
