Ranbir is an experimentation mode, what with three consecutive films of his showcasing him as a failed professional (ANJAANA ANJAANI), jilted musician (ROCKSTAR) and a handicapped individual (BARFEE). Going by the trend, one wonders what really is Ranbir looking forward to in months to come.
Not someone who has believed in playing safe all the time; what with films like ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR and WAKE UP SID being unconventional choices as well, doesn't his heart pine to step into much more guaranteed commercial successes like RAAJNEETI or AJAB PREM KI GHAZAN KAHANI? Is he looking at experimenting further in his career?
"Well, experimental or not but one thing is sure that I don't want to be typecast at all," declares Ranbir, "I am hoping that I am offered untried and untested genres film after film. I may have done a few different films in the past and even in future I want to do diverse films belonging to action, drama or comic genre. My endeavour has been to play different characters in each of my films so far and if you notice, none of them bears any similarity whatsoever with another that I may have played. I try to make them all as exciting as I can. My character as well as films should be something that are engaging." CHECK OUT: Good start for ROCKSTAR, RA.ONE slumps in 2nd week
He has a reality check around his knack for experimentation though and understands that not every step that he ends up taking would reap benefits for him, either critically or commercially.
"Something like that is bound to happen in the business that I am in," agrees Ranbir, "Eventually at times I may be successful and there would be times when I fail. However what is of paramount importance is that whether I have surrendered to my character and the film or not. As long as I am doing that, have fully convinced myself and delivered my best after accepting to do a character, the eventual results are plain rudimentary."
