Director Jagmohan Mundhra dies at 62

Director Jagmohan Mundhra died at a hospital in Mumbai on Sunday morning. He was 62.

According to family sources, Mundhra was suffering from internal bleeding and admitted to the hospital recently.


Born on October 29, 1948 in Nagpur, Mundhra was best known for his women-centric and issue-oriented films like Nandita Das-starrer BAWANDAR and Aishwarya Rai-starrer PROVOKED.

After SURAAG, and Kamla, Mundhra in the late 1980s and the 1990s directed a string of horror and erotic thrillers, including THE JIGSAW MURDERS (1988), HALLOWEEN NIGHT (1988), NIGHT EYES (1990), L.A. GODDESS (1993), SEXUAL MALICE (1994) and TALES OF THE KAMA SUTRA 2: MONSOON (1998).

Beginning with BAWANDAR (2000), which he directed under the name Jagmohan, Mundhra was back to issue-oriented films.

He was to start shooting a film on plight of Dalit women titled KISSA KUTTE KA by end of September.
