For someone who has over 40 films to his credit as a director, has edited more than 30 films and has been in the business for close to four decades, it would have been expected that he would wield the director's hat for his son's launch as an actor. However David Dhawan surprised one and all by instead accepting Karan Johar's offer of launching Varun Dhawan with STUDENT OF THE YEAR. Now that the film's shooting is currently underway, one wonders whether the proud dad aspires to direct his son soon.
"Of course I would make a film with Varun tomorrow, why won't I? After all ghar ka hero hai," laughs Dhawan, "However as of now his break has come in just the right hands and at the right time. In fact I am so content and confident about his progress there that I don't even want to be on the sets of the film. Varun has found just the right platform and now he has to take care of himself."
While Varun is now going through the grind of lights-camera-action, David's other son Rohit is also almost ready with his directorial debut DESI BOYZ which is all set for November release. With both his sons just starting off in the business of movie making, one can pretty much guess that Papa Dhawan was always in the know-how of their plans for all these years.
Smiles Dhawan, "What exactly is going in a child's heart is something that parents get to know last. Now that both of them have made up their mind, I am sure they will excel in their respective fields. Eventually they have to do well. Jitna achcha kaam karenge, utna achcha results payenge. Rest is in God's hand."
Well, with RASCALS releasing all over this Dussehra on 6th October, DESI BOYZ arriving on 25th November and STUDENT OF THE YEAR hitting the screens in 2012, looks like next twelve months would be the most eventful in the lives of Dhawans.
