When it comes to matters of heart, Vinay Virmani - leading man of this weekend's release SPEEDY SINGHS (BREAKAWAY) - still can't forget the trust and confidence that Akshay Kumar showed in him right through this two year journey. While he doesn't forget to acknowledge the contribution made by Akshay in making this film a reality, he reiterates that more than a professional alliance, it is the personal bonding that he shares with the star that he cherishes most.
'Frankly, our relationship has never been on a professional level,' says Vinay, 'He and my father have been friends for quite some time. Our families are very close and Akshay also has this very long association with Canada; it is akin to his second home. A lot of my growing up has happened with Akshay. He is not only my friend; he is also my big brother. This is what that matters most as he really motivated me to step into making films myself.'
Akshay motivation didn't just last a few soothing words once he stepped into the project as a producer as well. This was quite encouraging for Vinay as well as his father (Ajay Virmani) as well since they could now expect a good placement for their film on the global platform.
'My dad was a constant pillar of support during this journey of mine,' Vinay gets a tad emotional here, 'I was auditioning at different places and this is when he gave me a piece of advice to write something for myself. He said that since I had so many real life stories and characters around me, all I had to do was imagine how I would like to see myself as one such character on screen. This is when I started thinking about the friends I love and the sports of ice hockey which is close to my heart. Soon Akshay stepped in and pushed me into making SPEEDY SINGHS.
While Akshay has also done a song as well as cameo sequence in the film, SPEEDY SINGHS stars Camilla Belle as Vinay's leading lady with Anupam Kher, Gurpreet Guggi, Russell Peters and Rob Low as the other principal artists. Directed by Robert Lieberman, the film releases on 23rd September.
