Lekha, who embarked on big screen with Tamil film JEYAM KONDAAN, is now all set to enter Bollywood with two big films – UTV's PETER GAYA KAAM SE and Raj Kumar Santoshi's POWER. Lekha is having a whale of her time in Bollywood. However getting into the acting field was indeed a tough task for someone like Lekha who did not have any family backing.
'I studied film at NID (Ahmedabad). I started my career as a theatre artist because I always wanted to act. But my family was against it. They didn't want me to work in this field. But still my desire never died... Because somewhere down in my heart I really felt that I should make my career in acting only,' reveals Lekha.
Obsessed by an incurable love for acting, Lekha chose to be in front of camera and this passion drove her to start up as a VJ. She says, 'My first gig was as a VJ. Basically I wanted to test myself whether I really have that potential to present myself in front of the camera or not. I feel this is the best way of testing yourself because of which I sort of also developed a confidence of facing the cameras.'
Lekha, who has been the eye-candy on IPL, shifted to Mumbai after she bagged a role in John Owen's PETER GAYA KAAM SE. However, it wasn't a cake walk for the pretty actress. Shares Lekha, 'There was good as well as bad phase during PETER GAYA KAAM SE's shoot. Bad as in the auditions for PGKS were bizarre! I had to give three screen tests for it... and then I got finalized. But later it was fun shooting for the film. Co-star Rajeev (Khandelwal) was cool! He is very professional, hard working and simple.'
Besides PETER GAYA KAAM SE, Lekha Washington will also be seen in mega-starrer POWER. 'They (makers) wanted a fresh face for this role... and yes! I was the lucky one to bag it. I am very excited. I play a Doctor in the film where Mr. Bachchan is my father and Ajay Devgn as my love interest. However, I haven't shot with Ajay yet...so looking forward to working with him. Then there's Ameesha Patel who is paired opposite Sanjay Dutt, and Anil Kapoor plays the villain,' elated Lekha talks about her new film POWER.
Lekha's journey from VJ to IPL host was indeed a good start and then her achievement as the 'Best Supporting Actress' for JEYAM KONDAAN and now 2 cream projects like PETER GAYA KAAM SE and POWER... It only seems that Bollywood may soon get a shining star in future!
