One does not know whether Kishore Kumar ever visited Delhi and stayed there, but his fans are going to get a visual treatise associated with his memory through enactment of the new drama at the new Mecca of theatre in the satellite town of capital, Gurgaon, at the Kingdom of Dreams, titled JHUMROO, probably taking a leaf out from the film by the same name which was full of theatrics and performance, including the fact that it was the first and probably the last film where a playback singer sang a song both in the male and female voice.

The drama has been woven around 19 super hit numbers sung by the maestro. Aptly titled JHUMROO, the drama has taken a leaf out of various characters played by Kishore Kumar in his cinematic oeuvre, of being a simpleton, which got a perfect manifestation in PADOSAN where Sunil Dutt played the role of Bhola. Incidentally, the character of Kishore Kumar in this musical extravaganza has been named as Bhola and it is being played by Gaurav Gera.

It has come a trifle late but the enactment of a drama woven around the successful saga of Kishoreda underlines the fact that he was one of the finest performers on the stage, and this musical comedy is also a statement about the fact that if the viewers have to be brought back to watch dramas then there is no harm to take the help from the cinematic fraternity and interpret the famous characters of cinema through a live performance.

The period of this drama is the era of the sixties and seventies when the streets of Mumbai were full of joy and fun and to create the ambience of the period designer Manish Malhotra has been roped in to make the costumes. Leveraging on the technology JHUMROO aims to recreate the charm of an era gone to sweep the audience off their feet and also to underline the role melody played in the evolution of cinema in the sixties and seventies, and the catalytic role that Kishore Kumar had played during these two decades.

The scale of grandeur that has been chosen for enacting this drama underlines the fact that such visual treatise would be a requiem for those who live in the big cities, as the razzmatazz of such scale can be mounted successfully in the cities like Delhi. The real cause to the memory of Kishore Kumar, would however be served if such enactment travels to the smaller cities of the country, as Kishore Kumar was a product of a small city called Khandwa and always yearned to go back there. The day such thing happens Kishore Kumar's soul would indeed be delighted.
