The debate regarding top heroes of Bollywood has always been a favourite subject amongst the media and film buffs, but when it comes to the ladies and their rankings we have not witnessed many discussions!
In fact after the retirement of the last real 'superstarnis' of Bollywood, Sri Devi (she is making a comeback though!) and then Madhuri's tenure dying a premature death (though she is still around, selectively), as she preferred to live in the US with her husband, there has been no one to stake claim for the number one spot, the way Sri and Mads did!
Of late there has been quite a competition between Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, with both running neck to neck. Priyanka Chopra too joined in the fray with two super hits in a row DON 2 and AGNEEPATH. One cannot ignore Asin, who is all set to enter the 100 crore club for the third time (after GHAJINI and READY), with HOUSEFULL 2.
However there was a surprise entry right at the top in the form of Vidya Balan with solo hits like NO ONE KILLED JESSICA, ISHQIYA, THE DIRTY PICTURE, and now the latest KAHAANI. Kareena may have occupied the number one spot with as many as four films in the 100 crore club (3 IDIOTS, GOLMAAL 3, BODYGUARD and RA.ONE) but none of the mentioned actresses can boast of solo hits (without a top 5 star) like Vidya. So the race to the top of the ladder is indeed getting exciting with more and more actresses joining the fray.
The latest to put up the challenge and vying for the top spot is the one film old Sonakshi Sinha. Not only did she flutter Chulbul Pandey's heart with her 'mast mast nain', but Sonakshi also won countless fans and admirers with her effortless and confident portrayal of a damsel in distress in the all-time blockbuster DABANGG. In fact we had already predicted in 2010 itself that Sonakshi will definitely hit big time because of her earthy, ethnic Indian beauty that has become a rarity in Bollywood (Sonakshi : DABANGG triumph of the ethnic, Indian beauty). And so it has happened!
CHECK OUT: Sonakshi is busier than Akshay Kumar!
But after the blockbuster success of DABANGG, more than one and a half years back, fans are waiting anxiously to see the buxom 'desi' beauty back again, and year 2012 should prove to a watershed year for Sonakshi as she has as many as four films slated for release, and all of them appear to be potential hits. And will definitely help Sonakshi cement her place at the top if they all succeed. .
Sonakshi will open her innings with UTV Motion Picture's ROWDY RATHORE. The promos of the superhot film directed by 'masala' film king, Prabhu Deva have been loved immensely and both Akshay and Sonakshi look great together. In fact both of them have already started the promotions of the film which is set to release on 1st June.

Just two months later, that is in August we will see Sonakshi back on screen with her ROWDY RATHORE co-star, Akshay Kumar in Shirish Kunder's fantasy film, JOKER. The much anticipated film has been constantly in the news and is much awaited.
The month of November will see Sonakshi in yet another comic-drama, SON OF SARDAR, opposite super actor Ajay Devgn, who has had a dream run last year, and is expected to continue his magical success run this year too. The film too has made headlines and this zany comedy about two warring 'sardar' families definitely looks like a super hit proposition.
And yes, last but not the least it will be the DABANGG sequel, which is all set for a Christmas release, which will be her crowning glory and definitely catapult her amongst the top Bollywood heroines.
