As we had said in our box-office report, the two new releases, HATE STORY and VICKY DONOR, belong to different genres and aimed at different segments. And so will not cut into each other's business and things have progressed accordingly.
As per the initial reports, it's Vivek Agnihotri's erotic thriller HATE STORY which is doing decent business, especially at the single screens, with collections varying from 30 percent to even as high as 70 percent. The film is lower at the multiplexes with collections hovering between 20 - 30 percent. The best performance comes from Paoli Dam's home turf West Bengal, CI followed by U.P., Maharashtra and Gujarat, while South is quite ordinary.
The other release of the week, Shoojit Sircar's VICKY DONOR has opened with dull to decent numbers at the multiplexes and collections are in the range of 35-55 percent (pick up noticed in the latter shows), while the single screens are weak (below 15 percent). The best performance comes from South, East Punjab and Delhi city.
Given the reasonably positive feedback for both HATE STORY and VICKY DONOR, there is hope that they will manage a decent run, though comparatively speaking, HATE STORY has its nose upfront, especially because of its controlled budget.
Meanwhile Sajid Khan's HOUSEFULL 2 has seen a rock-steady second week netting 30 crore from India, taking its two week total to 93 crore (to be validated). The film is a super-hit, and as of this moment may well turn out to be the biggest overseas hit of 2012.
