Pick up any Hindi film featuring Parsis and chances are that there is a distinct manner in which members of the community are shown walking, talking and gesturing in general. However Farah Khan and Boman Irani were sure that they won't be caricaturing Parsis in SHIRIN FARHAD KI TOH NIKAL PADI.
"Both of them are Parsis in real life and are also playing one in the film. In fact SHIRIN FARHAD... also has the distinction of an all Parsis cast. One way out would have been to make it a full-on laugh riot by presenting Parsis as they have been in countless films over the decades. Farah and Boman were not in favour of that though as they felt it was about time that traits of any community in particular were taken advantage of just to get some laughs on," informs a senior crew member.
Fortunately for them Sanjay Leela Bhansai and Bela Sehgal were on the same page and it was decided that neither would there be any fake accents nor any exaggerated body language. Both Farah as well as Boman were asked to play it natural so that Parsis could be presented in the right light.
"Yes, we didn't want to get into that 'Ae, Tu Kya Bolta Hai' zone," says Farah, "So many communities are caricatured in Hindi films; as Bollywood we have a strong history of that, especially when we present South Indians. For SHIRIN FARHAD... though we wanted to be true to the film. In fact if any of us strayed a bit, Boman brought us back on track since till date he lives in the heart of Parsi community. He turned out to be our guide on everything Parsi."
