Subhash Ghai to pay tribute to Ashok Mehta

'What a way to go Ashok Mehta! We will miss you and remember you as great human being. We shall always remember his magical cinematography which raised the standards of cinematography in Indian cinema since 1980 through his cult film '36 CHOWRANGEE LANE'. Many have followed you and many will continue to follow you,' said Subhash Ghai on the demise of Ashok Mehta.
SUBHASH GHAI RECEIVING AWARD FROM ASHOK MEHTA
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai's Whistling Woods will pay a special tribute to late legend Ashok Mehta. The faculty and students has decided to commemorate his terahvi ceremony on 27th August by holding a day long memorial. It will be a day of tribute to Ashok Mehta and his work at Whistling Woods campus in Filmcity, Mumbai.
There shall be film appreciation classes by faculties of WWI and film veterans on Ashok Mehta's classic work. An exhibition with pictures and posters of Ashok Mehta and his films shall be at display for the visitors. Tribute to the Legend with prayers, discussion and screening of a short documentary. Ashok's only directorial venture MOKSH, a classic piece of cinema itself, will be screened on 27 August.
Ashok Mehta was conferred with the MAESTRO AWARD - instituted by Whistling Woods, for his legendary contribution to the Indian cinema, on July 18' 2012. The award was presented by Shyam Benegal, Subhash Chandra and Subhash Ghai while 400 students gave him a standing ovation with cheers and whistles.
Mehta photographed five films for Mukta Arts including RAM LAKHAN (1989), KHAL NAYAK (1993) and KISNA (2005) apart from many other films in art cinema with the best of directors in India.
Some of his other memorable work include Shekhar Kapoor's BANDIT QUEEN, Shyam Benegal's TRIKAAL, Aparna Sen's 36 CHOWRANGEE LANE, Shashi Kapoor's UTSAV.
