It is still fresh in everyone's memories that things weren't quite hunky-dory between Chetan Bhagat and Rajkumar Hirani/Vidhu Vinod Chopra when it came to an appropriate crediting for 3 IDIOTS. There was a war of words which made national headlines and presumably left an ugly taste in everyone's mouth. While those associated with 3 IDIOTS claimed that the film wasn't strictly based on Chetan's bestselling novel, the author felt otherwise.
On the other hand things seem to be different for Chetan now, especially with producer-director Sajid Nadiadwala not just making a huge announcement around him being roped in as a screenplay writer of KICK but also making a conscious effort to introduce him as the newest Bollywood entrant in this stream of work.
"That's something I feel really touched about,'' says Chetan while also avoiding saying much on the 3 IDIOTS imbroglio, "In fact I sometimes feel embarrassed that I am doing a screenplay adaptation but Sajid is making an effort to make people know. I guess he has a soft spot for me but then when someone does so much for you; it puts all the more pressure. I am more than satisfied with the trust, confidence and respect towards me and I hope more of this happens in future as well."
While one waits to see that happening, the wait is indeed getting all the more exciting to see what Chetan has spun for KICK which is all set to go on floors next year.
