SHIP OF THESEUS doesn't have any inspiration point
December 5, 2012 03:50:35 PM IST By Joginder Tuteja, Glamsham Editorial
Just recently realtor turned actor turned producer Sohum Shah announced that he may step in to distribute SHIP OF THESEUS, an ensemble affair that has its characters speaking in English, Arabic, Swedish and Hindi. There is a very strong reason behind that.
Says Sohum, 'The film's story intrigued me a lot and I decided to further support it to the fullest. I found it to be quite different and unique. Otherwise the kind of cinema that I have seen, every film has some inspiration point where you can draw parallels. Even an Oscar winning film may seem to be carrying certain influences. However in SHIP OF THESEUS there was a definite uniqueness to it. It made me ask questions that how there are certain things in life that are so very important that you should realise their true worth.'
Shot extensively in Himalayas, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune, Satara and Sweden, the film has been in the making for a while now.
'That's because the whole editing process was very difficult,'' says Sohum, 'There are three different stories and we had to present them all well. The film's length was increasing and the first cut came to 165 minutes. Now we have managed to bring it down to 140 minutes. Moreover we shot the film quite differently as well. You would see very few films like these. In fact there are certain shots that last up to nine minutes. Also, we haven't shot with a conventional camera set up. Most of the film has been captured through hand held cameras. The film brings a different language of cinema.'
