It was way back in 1983 when Jeetendra and Sridevi starrer HIMMATWALA had released and turned out to be a bumper success all over. Close to three decades later when Sajid Khan is making his own version of the K. Raghavendra Rao directed film, he is understandably nostalgic about the phenomenon that the film had turned out to be back then.
Moreover, he doesn't hesitate in acknowledging the fact that the 'masala' film from the South film industry has stayed on to be one of his most favourite films till date; something that drove him to come up with his own take on it with Ajay Devgn and Tamannaah Bhatia in lead.
''Actually if you go back and check box office records of the year 1983 then you would see that it was such an important year for Bollywood. It was the year when Sunny Deol was launched with BETAAB. Then Anil Kapoor too saw a proper launch with WOH SAAT DIN. Jackie Shroff made waves with HERO and Rajnikanth announced his arrival in Hindi film circuit with ANDHAA KANOON. This isn't all as the biggest film of the year was Mr. Bachchan's COOLIE'', says Sajid Khan who has always maintained that he is a fan of out and out commercial entertaining films.
''In the middle of this all, how do you think HIMMATWALA turned out to be such a big hit? That was because it was a guilty pleasure,'' he adds.
A co-production of Vashu Bhagnani and Siddharth Roy Kapur (of UTV Motion Pictures), HIMMATWALA also stars Paresh Rawal, Mahesh Manjrekar & Zarina Wahab, has music by Sajid-Wajid and releases all over on 29th March, 2013.
