Ranbir Kapoor's BARFI! out of Oscar race

Shattering dreams of Indian movie buffs, director Anurag Basu's BARFI! did not qualify for the best foreign language film category at the 85th Academy Awards, as per the latest Oscar shortlist.
BARFI! was India's official entry to the Oscars this year. Ranbir Kapoor starrer BARFI! which also featured Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz received positive response from critics and audience.
The producer and distributor of the film Disney UTV had earlier said they were honoured that BARFI! was selected to represent India as its official entry to the Academy Awards 2013.
'Nine films will advance to the next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 85th Academy Awards,' The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in a statement.
71 films had originally qualified in the category.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said: 'The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013 in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.'
'Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2013. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide,' it said.
The nine selected films in the Foreign Language Film category are as given below:

Canada, WAR WITCH, Kim Nguyen, director;
Chile, NO, Pablo Larrain, director;
Denmark, A ROYAL AFFAIR, Nikolaj Arcel, director;
France, THE INTOUCHABLES, Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, directors;
Iceland, THE DEEP, Baltasar Korma'kur, director;
Norway, KON-TIKI, Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, directors;
Romania, BEYOND THE HILLS, Cristian Mungiu, director;
Switzerland, SISTER, Ursula Meier, director.
